It is a fortune 500 company. It has very strong marketing campaign that increases the familiarity of its brand. It employs over 30,000 employees across the world. It has got its retail chain Niketown. It has taken initiatives in many different branding opportunities and resulted in impressive outcomes. So, in case its market share decreases, it can leave the company becomes vulnerable to come down. Retailers also provide same set of experiences to customers. So, the profit margin will get affected if retailers try to sell off the products at lower prices. Analysis of hospitality industry: Kedar Country Lodge Kedar Country Lodge It is a four star lodge with 85 employees, its divided into different department namely Food and Beverage, Front Office, Kitchen, Housekeeping, Maintenance, Garden, Sales, Human Resources, Administration and IT. The property is 640 hectors with antelopes animals, it has Paul Kruger Museum, 65 rooms, 7 conference rooms, Restaurant and Bar. Most of their guests come to do conferencing and as well leisure. Task 1 Staff Organization At Kedar Country Lodge they are using Hierarchical structure, where by each department has a leader whom the junior staff report to and then they report to the operations manager then he reports straight to the general manager. The Roles and Responsibilities of a supervisor The supervisor at Kedar is second eye for a manager, he/she deals with staff directly. On staff rota there are only four different shifts firstly from 06:00 -15:00, secondly from 08:00 ââ¬â 17:00, thirdly from 14:00 ââ¬â 23:00 and lastly from 23:00 08:00. They are using excel to do the staff rota, on a first column they put the staff names and followed by how many days offs did the company give you, on first raw they put the number of guests in-house followed by the dates and days, at the end thereââ¬â¢s a column of days off being owed to staff or days being owed to the company by staff. They save staff rota in computers to keep their records or for later changes. Staff is allowed to request certain days offs if they do have some appointments but it will depend how busy it will be that day. When staff rota is done it will be taken to the relevant department and put them on notice board so that everyone can see it. The Purpose and Features of Contract of Employment Contract of employment is an agreement between the employees and the kedar owner, it is presented in a form paper with 5 pages and if they are hiring the employee has to sign as well as the employer. The compassionate leave applies when the employee has to deal with emergency involving someone who depends on him/her e.g. child, husband or wife. Sick leave ââ¬â They are entitled 12 days off sick in a year, if the employee exceeds then they will subtract the days from annual leave and give them full pay. If it may happen that they have taken the entire annual leave they then notify the employee to take an unpaid leave and they wonââ¬â¢t pay any salary to the employee. Time off ââ¬â they are entitled to off 6 days a month of which they work five and half days and get off. They will be paid full salary. Workerââ¬â¢s Compensation ââ¬â If an employee gets injury at work the company will pay hospital bills and pay the employee the employee full salary during those days not at work. Casual employees At kedar they use casual employees when itââ¬â¢s too busy and they pay them an hour rate. Free Will Imagine if you found yourself in a state of bondage where every action desire and feeling was planned on an inexorable agenda that you could not help but comply with. Although this seems like a dark and fantastical world, if the idea of determinism is fully accepted than it may not be as distant as you might think. The idea of Free Will is one of the most timeless and dubitable philosophical questions and is imposable to disregard. The idea of Free Will has three prevailing schools of thought, consisting of Determinism, (The belief that every action is determined and therefore, not free.), Liberalism (the belief that our actions are not causally determined and therefore, free.)and lastly, Compatibilism (The belief that Determinism is Compatibilism with Free Will.). Each outlook has its points as well as dissentions, but of all the angles, the one I must believe in is Compatibilism and this is why. Although Compatibilism is what I choose to believe, the other arguments are based on pr incipals that cannot be ignored. The first view that I am going to deal with is that of the Determinist, namely the ââ¬Å"Hardâ⬠one. Determinism is the belief that every action is the result of a previous action, and was therefore determined to occur. If all actions are determined by previous actions than no actions can be made freely. Like the cosmological argument, determinism rests on the logical fact that no uncaused event can occur. What separates a DeterministÃÅ" from a compatibilist is the belief that any action that occurs could not of happened in any other way. If this were the case then it would be theoretically possible to predict the future simply by observing the past and present. Because nobody can successfully and consistently predict the future, some people believe that this is an argument against determinism. The determinist easily dismisses this argument with the response that humans donââ¬â¢t have the power to see let alone interpret the myriad of event s that lead to an action. Another common argument is the idea that if you were told what the future had in store for you, you could therefore consciously alter this out come. This argument is smashed with the fact that if you were told the future and you altered it, the future you were told was not the future because what actually occurred was different than what was predicted. Although, the strongest argument... ...cause you ran out of gas, the reason you ran out of gas is because you were driving your car, the reason that you were driving your car was because you had to drive to work, the reason that you had to go to work was because you needed to feed and shelter yourself. As you can see, even the most mundane task of going to the gas station can be linked back to basic human survival. Now imagine that you are at the gas station and you realize that your oil is very low. As a result you go inside and find two brands of oil, neither of which you have seen before. Both brands cost the same, have the same ingredients, have the same general appearance, (ex. color, shape and texture) and are both equally accessible. Even though it was causally determined that you are in the gas station making this decision, the decision itââ¬â¢s self is under no constraint and can go one way as easily as the other and is there fore a free, as well as causally determined decision. It consisted of six people: Hammond's grandchildren, Malcom, Dr.Sattler and Dr.Grant, and Ed Regis. While on the tour it was explained how the dinosaurs were created. First amber that had hardened millions of years ago with mosquitoes or other blood drinking bugs. DNA was extracted from the blood and was used to recreate dinosaur embryos. There were 15 different species and 238 individual dinosaurs. à à à à à During the tour weather became bad weather. Because of the bad weather all power went out and without Nedry, who was quietly stealing embryos, it could not be fixed. However, Nedry was killed by a dinosaur because of a wrong turn.

How to Mark A Book Essay
Active reading is important because it keeps your mind dynamic and promotes a better understanding of what you are reading. You are able to answer questions you have that come up throughout the story-line and solve problems or confusions about the plot or characters. As you read along, you can make notes either agreeing or disagreeing with the current events taking place in the book. You are allowing yourself to input ideas of your own. Making notes in your book as you read through is, in a sense, engaging in a dialogue between the author and yourself. The reason active reading is so important is that it helps to keep your mind dynamic and willing to explore, and promote fresh ideas. Mortimer Adler states that ââ¬Å"writing helps you remember the thoughts you had, or the thoughts the author expressedâ⬠(p9.) The meaning of active reading is that one is reading something with a clear intent to evaluate and understand the material. ââ¬Å"The physical act of writing, with your ow n hand, brings words and sentences more sharply before your mind and preserves them better in your memoryâ⬠(p12.) This isnââ¬â¢t just reading the material over and over, but rather critically and actively engaging with the content of the material. ââ¬Å"To set down your reaction to important words and sentences you have read, and the questions they have raised in your mind, is to preserve those reactions and sharpen those questionsâ⬠(p12.) When reading a great book, marking in notes is also almost essential every time a new character is introduced. Anytime something important about that character is revealed, like background story, physical appearance, motivations, etc., you can underline it. Later on in the book sometimes characters will re-appear out of nowhere and you can put a note there on which page they were described. This helps a lot for books in which there are a lot of characters, or the characters have exotic names. Milton Adler brings up a good point that is relative when reading a book with a complex story-line and a dynamic plot. ââ¬Å"You can pick up the book the following week or year, and there are all your points of agreement, disagreement, doubt, and inquiry. Itââ¬â¢s like resuming an interrupted conversation with the advantage of being able to pick up where you left offâ⬠(p13.) Unfortunately for myself, I tend to lack the drive to read paperback books, let alone actively engage in the story by writing my own thoughts in. But I do read an extensive amount online, ranging anywhere from short anecdotes, all the way to peer reviewed papers from scientists and university professors. Fortunately for me, I do enjoy reading. The benefits of reading to me are invaluable. It stimulates my brain and makes me more of a creative thinker. It also expands and improves my vocabulary. Reading online has introduced me to new ideas and ways of thinking; It has increased my knowledge of things I once only half-understood. It has shed light on countries I believed I knew so much about, like Russia and North Korea, Afghanistan and India. It has introduced me to people I might otherwise never have heard of. I actively seek out sources which offer ideas and insights, which increase my understanding of the world, and so I think that without the information I obtained through reading I would be clueless. In conclusion, Mortimer Adler has made some credible points that are useful, if put into practice. By actively reading the text and jotting down questions you hope to learn answers to, you make it easier and more pleasant to read through the text the first time, and you engage yourself actively with the text, generating a personal interest through the questions youââ¬â¢ve written down in the information being presented in the text. This makes the reading more interesting and more rewarding. When you go back and annotate the text thoroughly while reading it through, you blaze y ourself a trail through the text that makes it much easier to navigate later on. If someone questions your interpretation of something you read, you can quickly and easily find the passage from your margin comments and highlighting colors. If you need to cite a passage from the text in an essay, it will also be very easy to find. Every time you need to review in order to prepare for class discussion, a quiz, or an essay, you can do it in a small fraction of the time and gain a deeper, more conscious understanding of information being inputted.
